GB Teat Ltd was founded in Rotorua in 1947 by George Teat, a qualified Refrigeration Engineer.
George’s eldest son Jim, joined the company in 1964 and completed his refrigeration apprenticeship at GB Teat, before heading overseas. Then in 1968, George’s youngest son Nev also joined the family business. Jim returned from the UK to rejoin the business and eventually took over from George as General Manager.
The company became a third generation business when George’s grandson Ben (Jim’s eldest son) followed the family tradition and joined GB Teat in 1993. He also trained as a refrigeration engineer.
Jim’s second son, Stefan joined the company for several years before pursuing a career in clean technology and renewable energy. Stefan is now the General Manager at ZEN Energy Systems NZ and GB Teat is the authorised installer for Zen Energy Systems for the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions.
Finally, Jim’s third son (Jonny) joined the company as Business Development Manager in 2011.
You would certainly describe GB Teat Ltd as a proud family business, steeped in history and expertise which has been passed down through the generations.
